Our Lady of Guadalupe:

Sash:
The position of the sash (it's up high) and the folds in the tunic show that the lady is pregnant. The color should be black, which is symbolic of the Aztec maternity belt.

Pattern of the dress: The flor y canto pattern (flower and song) connect her to the native people and suggest divine revelation.

Her dress: A light rose/pale red is for the color of dawn. This color was hugely important to Aztecs, who saw considered the color to be the symbol of life, blood and earth.

Stars on the mantle: The eight-point gold stars are arranged as they would have appeared to Juan Diego in the night sky that winter in December 1531. Mary is also known as the Queen of Heaven, hence the stars.
Mantle: The blue-green color is the one worn by royalty according to the native people. The gold trim is symbolic of royalty and a person meriting great respect.

Moon: The moon was worshiped by the native people. By her stepping on them, it shows how the old gods do not exist, only the one god.

Angel: In Aztec culture, only honored people would ever be carried around on someone else's shoulders. The angel supporting the Blessed Mother show that she deserves the highest honors and that even angels care for her.

HOW THE LADY BUG GOT ITS NAME...

About fifteen years ago I got a call from my mother in love. She was watching Jeopardy on TV and said to me, "Do you know what the Lady Bug is named after?" Since I didn't she shared the story of how the Ladybug was named after OUR LADY!!! We were so excited and instantly were fans of the Ladybug. Two of my daughters had Ladybug birthday parties and our main bathroom is decorated with the Ladybug theme. I love to tell young kids the story too!!!

Found these stories online.

HOW THE LADYBUG GOT ITS NAME:

Legends vary about how the Ladybug came to be named, but the most common (and enduring) is this: In Europe, during the Middle Ages, swarms of insects were destroying the crops. The farmers prayed to the Virgin Mary for help. Soon thereafter the Ladybugs came, devouring the plant-destroying pests and saving the crops! The farmers called these beautiful insects "The Beetles of Our Lady", and - over time - they eventually became popularly known as "Lady Beetles". The red wings were said to represent the Virgin's cloak and the black spots were symbolic of both her joys and her sorrows.

Why are they called ladybugs?

The most popular story of how the ladybug got its name comes from the Middle Ages. In Europe swarms and swarms of insects were ruining crops everywhere. Farmers started praying to the Virgin Mary hoping she could help the crisis.

Soon, ladybugs showed up and started eating all of the insects and helped to protect the crops. The farmers called them Beetles of our Lady, because they believed the Virgin Mary had sent them to help. Eventually the name was reduced to Lady Beetles then Ladybugs. The red shell represented her cloak and the spots were symbols of her joy and sorrows.

Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe...

The image of Our Lady of Guadalupe has been my favorite for about 16 years. I am guessing my attraction was the fact that she was pregnant in this image. I also received great graces 16 years ago when I had my only miscarriage and my friend took my plea for another baby to her shrine. It was weeks after my miscarriage that I became pregnant with my son Caleb. My third birth and Our Lady interceded for eight more...ok, Our Lady were ready again!!! Thy will be done, right?

I have really enjoyed doing the Novena To Our Lady. I loved the prayers and the petitions.

Dear Lord give me gentleness and strength, lively faith to do your Son's holy will, walk valiantly, fortify my will, help me obtain an abundance of graces, multiply priestly vocations, help us live a holy life and educate our children, and help us fulfill our duties in our State In Life!!!
