Meditation of the day...Daily GOSPLE...
Mark 4:21-25
Jesus said to his disciples, "Is a lamp brought in to be placed under a bushel basket or under a bed, and not to be placed on a lampstand? For there is nothing hidden except to be made visible; nothing is secret except to come to light. Anyone who has ears to hear ought to hear." He also told them, "Take care what you hear. The measure with which you measure will be measured out to you, and still more will be given to you. To the one who has, more will be given; from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away."
Another reason why I need to work on being amazing and doing God's will in my life!!!

IMITATION OF CHRIST: Meditation of the day...
The Thirty-Second Chapter
Self-Denial and the Renunciation of Evil Appetites (part two)
The Voice of Christ
My child, you should not turn away or be downcast when you hear the way of the perfect. Rather you ought to be spurred on the more toward their sublime heights, or at least be moved to seek perfection.
I wish this were the case with you—that you had progressed to the point where you no longer loved self but simply awaited My bidding and his whom I have placed as father over you. Then you would please Me very much, and your whole life would pass in peace and joy. But you have yet many things which you must give up, and unless you resign them entirely to Me you will not obtain that which you ask.
“I counsel thee to buy of me gold, fire-tried, that thou mayest be made rich” Apoc. 3:18. —rich in heavenly wisdom which treads underfoot all that is low. Put aside earthly wisdom, all human self-complacency.
I have said: exchange what is precious and valued among men for that which is considered contemptible. For true heavenly wisdom—not to think highly of self and not to seek glory on earth—does indeed seem mean and small and is well-nigh forgotten, as many men praise it with their mouths but shy far away from it in their lives. Yet this heavenly wisdom is a pearl of great price, which is hidden from many.
Once again I would like to repeat this phrase:
My child, you should not turn away or be downcast when you hear the way of the perfect. Rather you ought to be spurred on the more toward their sublime heights, or at least be moved to seek perfection.
This is so important to remember...especially in the Blog/Facebook world!!! People just see the good and not the struggles of every day life. When I read a blog of someone I admire...I try to take away inspiration not depression...realizing that they too have daily struggles to overcome!!!
Today is Small Successes Thursday at Faith and Family...see you there!!!

I REALLY WANTED TO BE AMAZING TODAY...
I really wanted to be amazing today:
If I was being amazing I would not be on line right now and I would be doing dishes, laundry, cleaning up the house, preparing for dinner, reading to a kid, or one of the other hundred things I should do!!!
If I was being amazing I would not be in my PJ's still...(yes, it is 1:30pm) I would not of put a movie on so I could take my pregnancy power nap...I would of been dressed, face on, and catering to my family...
OK...I will try to be amazing tomorrow...it is a good thing because tomorrow is Thursday...and on Thursday's at Faith and Family it is Small Success Day!!! I will work on getting dressed!!!

SHORT AND PERFECT ADVICE:
The Thirty-Second Chapter
Self-Denial and the Renunciation of Evil Appetites
The Voice of Christ
MY CHILD, you can never be perfectly free unless you completely renounce self, for all who seek their own interest and who love themselves are bound in fetters. They are unsettled by covetousness and curiosity, always searching for ease and not for the things of Christ, often devising and framing that which will not last, for anything that is not of God will fail completely.
Hold to this short and perfect advice, therefore: give up your desires and you will find rest. Think upon it in your heart, and when you have put it into practice you will understand all things.
The Disciple
But this, Lord, is not the work of one day, nor is it mere child’s play; indeed, in this brief sentence is included all the perfection of holy persons.
I don't like any meditation that is titled anything about "appetites", especially during my pregnancies. It is the little sacrifices we make that help us be strong against the big ones!!! If only I could of remembered this as that piece of chocolate cake stared me in the face this weekend...

IMITATION OF CHRIST: Meditation of the day...
The Thirty-First Chapter
To Find the Creator, Forsake All Creatures (part two)
There is great difference between the wisdom of an enlightened and devout man and the learning of a well-read and brilliant scholar, for the knowledge which flows down from divine sources is much nobler than that laboriously acquired by human industry.
Many there are who desire contemplation, but who do not care to do the things which contemplation requires. It is also a great obstacle to be satisfied with externals and sensible things, and to have so little of perfect mortification. I know not what it is, or by what spirit we are led, or to what we pretend—we who wish to be called spiritual—that we spend so much labor and even more anxiety on things that are transitory and mean, while we seldom or never advert with full consciousness to our interior concerns.
Alas, after very little recollection we falter, not weighing our deeds by strict examination. We pay no attention to where our affections lie, nor do we deplore the fact that our actions are impure.
Remember that because all flesh had corrupted its course, the great deluge followed. Since, then, our interior affection is corrupt, it must be that the action which follows from it, the index as it were of our lack of inward strength, is also corrupt. Out of a pure heart come the fruits of a good life.
People are wont to ask how much a man has done, but they think little of the virtue with which he acts. They ask: Is he strong? rich? handsome? a good writer? a good singer? or a good worker? They say little, however, about how poor he is in spirit, how patient and meek, how devout and spiritual. Nature looks to his outward appearance; grace turns to his inward being. The one often errs, the other trusts in God and is not deceived.
I have tried to tell my children over and over again that it is what is in your heart not just your mind. I hope they are smart, but most of all I pray that they are HOLY!!! Together with a well balanced life they can change the world!!!

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host -by the Divine Power of God -cast into hell, Satan and all the evil spirits, who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.

IMITATION OF CHRIST: Meditation of the day...
The Thirty-First Chapter
To Find the Creator, Forsake All Creatures
The Disciple
O LORD, I am in sore need still of greater grace if I am to arrive at the point where no man and no created thing can be an obstacle to me. For as long as anything holds me back, I cannot freely fly to You. He that said “Oh that I had wings like a dove, that I might fly away and be at rest!”Ps. 54:7. desired to fly freely to You. Who is more at rest than he who aims at nothing but God? And who more free than the man who desires nothing on earth?
It is well, then, to pass over all creation, perfectly to abandon self, and to see in ecstasy of mind that You, the Creator of all, have no likeness among all Your creatures, and that unless a man be freed from all creatures, he cannot attend freely to the Divine. The reason why so few contemplative persons are found, is that so few know how to separate themselves entirely from what is transitory and created.
For this, indeed, great grace is needed, grace that will raise the soul and lift it up above itself. Unless a man be elevated in spirit, free from all creatures, and completely united to God, all his knowledge and possessions are of little moment. He who considers anything great except the one, immense, eternal good will long be little and lie groveling on the earth. Whatever is not God is nothing and must be accounted as nothing.
It is Monday morning...and to have the grace to get back some order is what I seek...The weekends I fall in to such laziness and gluttony!!! May I have the grace this week to set my priorities in order and fulfill the job God is calling me to do.

my caleb...SWEET 16!!!
It just took me 16 years to find the key to your heart...Rock Band?!@#+
You are always helping with the babies...even if "baby E" likes you more than me!!!
My Dear Sweet Caleb Boy…
Do you remember a cute little boy about six who proclaimed to his loving mommy, that when he grew up he wanted to be the patron saint of LEGO builders? I smiled so much that day…it made me feel like you actually understood what being a saint really meant. (Finding out your talents and what you are good at, and doing them for the Glory of God!!!)
I know we have had our differences and you don’t understand why I do what I do…but, I do it to help you become a better person and to help you learn how to be a Saint!!! (Not to make you miserable)
You have so many gifts. Besides being practically brilliant, you are so good with babies, you have dad’s dry sense of humor… (Is that really a gift or a curse?) You are also a good friend. I know you are an authentic friend, and that is hard to find!!! I can’t wait till you are all grown up and I don’t have to nag you any more…and we can be friends too!!! Every since you were born, you have been my sweet sensitive boy. You always remember me…you were the one to bring me flowers from outside, show me your treasures, ask for a cuddle, play tickle time... cause I know where your spots are, and to play the abc game on your back.
Stay close to your catholic faith and become the saint God created you to be!!!
BTW…I don’t think there is a patron saint for Lego’s or soccer yet!!

Today Responsoral Psalm from mass...
Psalm 25
Of David.
1To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul;
2 in you I trust, O my God.
Do not let me be put to shame,
nor let my enemies triumph over me.
3 No one whose hope is in you
will ever be put to shame,
but they will be put to shame
who are treacherous without excuse.
4 Show me your ways, O LORD,
teach me your paths;
5 guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.
6 Remember, O LORD, your great mercy and love,
for they are from of old.
7 Remember not the sins of my youth
and my rebellious ways;
according to your love remember me,
for you are good, O LORD.
8 Good and upright is the LORD;
therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.
9 He guides the humble in what is right
and teaches them his way.
10 All the ways of the LORD are loving and faithful
for those who keep the demands of his covenant.
11 For the sake of your name, O LORD,
forgive my iniquity, though it is great.
12 Who, then, is the man that fears the LORD ?
He will instruct him in the way chosen for him.
13 He will spend his days in prosperity,
and his descendants will inherit the land.
14 The LORD confides in those who fear him;
he makes his covenant known to them.
15 My eyes are ever on the LORD,
for only he will release my feet from the snare.
16 Turn to me and be gracious to me,
for I am lonely and afflicted.
17 The troubles of my heart have multiplied;
free me from my anguish.
18 Look upon my affliction and my distress
and take away all my sins.
19 See how my enemies have increased
and how fiercely they hate me!
20 Guard my life and rescue me;
let me not be put to shame,
for I take refuge in you.
21 May integrity and uprightness protect me,
because my hope is in you.
22 Redeem Israel, O God,
from all their troubles!

MARCH FOR LIFE...
I feel strange being home and not on the bus heading to the March...I got 3 little guys with bad colds and that "STATE IN LIFE" thing is callling my name. Fortunately the four older kids headed out with youth group at 6 am this morning, so at least some of us got to go.
I felt bad when I had to cancel our 10 spots on the bus this week...but, felt much better when the woman in charge said their were 20 on the waiting list!!! Thanks be to God!!!
My other kids will stay home in the warmth today missing their favorite part of the march...the bus ride!!! Wow no car seats and lots of friends.
May God bless all those downtown today and may the Good Lord bless our new president with wisdom.
Please join us in our prayers for complete conversion of heart of our nations leader. I am especially praying for the intercession of St. Padre Pio and to Obama's guardian angle to guide him in all ways, especially to protect the unborn and all life from conception to natural death.

If you noticed the side bar on my blog...the baby is smiling today!!! Well at least to me!!! The kids still think the baby looks like a dinosaur and think dad's baby ticker is way cooler than mine!!! I do to, but like most cool blog stuff around here...dad always is one step ahead of mom!!!
Feeling fine, eating too much, getting those naps in whenever I can...Thanks to my honey!!! Need to get back to my exercise routine. I will start wearing my support hose soon. Lovely...just lovely. (not too bad in the winter!!!)

IMITATION OF CHRIST: Meditation of the day...
The Thirtieth Chapter
The Quest of Divine Help and Confidence in Regaining Grace (part three)
This is where I left off last time: I know your secret thoughts, and I know that it is profitable for your salvation to be left sometimes in despondency lest perhaps you be puffed up by success and fancy yourself to be what you are not.
What I have given, I can take away and restore when it pleases Me. What I give remains Mine, and thus when I take it away I take nothing that is yours, for every good gift and every perfect gift is Mine.
If I send you trouble and adversity, do not fret or let your heart be downcast. I can raise you quickly up again and turn all your sorrow into joy. I am no less just and worthy of great praise when I deal with you in this way.
If you think aright and view things in their true light, you should never be so dejected and saddened by adversity, but rather rejoice and give thanks, considering it a matter of special joy that I afflict you with sorrow and do not spare you. “As the Father hath loved Me, so also I love you,” I said to My disciples, and I certainly did not send them out to temporal joys but rather to great struggles, not to honors but to contempt, not to idleness, but to labors, not to rest but to bring forth much fruit in patience. Do you, My child, remember these words.
So I guess we are to remember that we will have struggles, contempt, labor, and need to be patient...at this time I am working on Humility; with the help of my teenagers!!!

IMITATION OF CHRIST: Meditation of the day...
The Thirtieth Chapter
The Quest of Divine Help and Confidence in Regaining Grace (part two)
It is only a temptation that troubles you, a vain fear that terrifies you.
Of what use is anxiety about the future? Does it bring you anything but trouble upon trouble? Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof. It is foolish and useless to be either grieved or happy about future things which perhaps may never happen. But it is human to be deluded by such imaginations, and the sign of a weak soul to be led on by suggestions of the enemy. For he does not care whether he overcomes you by love of the present or fear of the future.
Let not your heart be troubled, therefore, nor let it be afraid. Believe in Me and trust in My mercy. When you think you are far from Me, then often I am very near you. When you judge that almost all is lost, then very often you are in the way of gaining great merit.
All is not lost when things go contrary to your wishes. You ought not judge according to present feelings, nor give in to any trouble whenever it comes, or take it as though all hope of escape were lost. And do not consider yourself forsaken if I send some temporary hardship, or withdraw the consolation you desire. For this is the way to the kingdom of heaven, and without doubt it is better for you and the rest of My servants to be tried in adversities than to have all things as you wish. I know your secret thoughts, and I know that it is profitable for your salvation to be left sometimes in despondency lest perhaps you be puffed up by success and fancy yourself to be what you are not.
It is amazing how a book written 500 years ago can so speak to my heart and help me change my prideful ways. Dear Lord, please help me to persevere through my minor daily problems and help me grow closer to you each day!!!

IMITATION OF CHRIST: Meditation of the day...
The Thirtieth Chapter
The Quest of Divine Help and Confidence in Regaining Grace (part one)
The Voice of Christ
MY CHILD, I am the Lord Who gives strength in the day of trouble. Come to Me when all is not well with you. Your tardiness in turning to prayer is the greatest obstacle to heavenly consolation, for before you pray earnestly to Me you first seek many comforts and take pleasure in outward things. Thus, all things are of little profit to you until you realize that I am the one Who saves those who trust in Me, and that outside of Me there is no worth-while help, or any useful counsel or lasting remedy.
But now, after the tempest, take courage, grow strong once more in the light of My mercies; for I am near, says the Lord, to restore all things not only to the full but with abundance and above measure. Is anything difficult for Me? Or shall I be as one who promises and does not act? Where is your faith? Stand firm and persevere. Be a man of endurance and courage, and consolation will come to you in due time. Wait for Me; wait—and I will come to heal you.
Lord, thank you for Your patience when I ignore Your requests. Keep me strong and help me to stand firm and persevere with great endurance and courage!!!

The Twenty-Ninth Chapter
How We Must Call Upon and Bless the Lord When Trouble Presses
The Disciple
BLESSED be Your name forever, O Lord, Who have willed that this temptation and trouble come upon me. I cannot escape it, yet I must fly to You that You may help me and turn it to my good. Now I am troubled, Lord, and my heart is not at rest, for I am greatly afflicted by this present suffering.
Beloved Father, what shall I say? I am straitened in harsh ways. Save me from this hour to which, however, I am come that You may be glorified when I am deeply humbled and freed by You. May it please You, then, to deliver me, Lord, for what can I, poor wretch that I am, do or where can I go without You? Give me patience, Lord, even now. Help me, my God, and I will not be afraid however much I may be distressed.
But here, in the midst of these troubles, what shall I say? Your will be done, Lord. I have richly deserved to be troubled and distressed. But I must bear it. Would that I could do so patiently, until the storm passes and calm returns! Yet Your almighty hand can take this temptation from me, or lighten its attack so that I do not altogether sink beneath it, as You, my God, my Mercy, have very often done for me before. And the more difficult my plight, the easier for You is this change of the right hand of the Most High.
Lord make me strong during the times of struggle and suffering. Help me take up my small crosses so I will be strong enough when the hard ones come.

HE REALLY DOES LOVE ME!!!
IMITATION OF CHRIST: Meditation of the day...
The Twenty-Eighth Chapter
Strength Against Slander
The Voice of Christ
MY CHILD, do not take it to heart if some people think badly of you and say unpleasant things about you. You ought to think worse things of yourself and to believe that no one is weaker than yourself. Moreover, if you walk in the spirit you will pay little heed to fleeting words. It is no small prudence to remain silent in evil times, to turn inwardly to Me, and not to be disturbed by human opinions. Do not let your peace depend on the words of men. Their thinking well or badly of you does not make you different from what you are. Where are true peace and glory? Are they not in Me? He who neither cares to please men nor fears to displease them will enjoy great peace, for all unrest and distraction of the senses arise out of disorderly love and vain fear.
Lord, please help me to work on my humility and to be prudent in thought and speech.

BUDDIES...
Here is a picture of my oldest daughter and her first buddy:
The only way we can survive in this house is with the buddy system!!! Our kids each have buddies!!! The bigger buddy helps the little buddy get in their car seat, tie shoes, put laundry away, help with school work, cut food, make their lunch, etc...what ever I am unable to do at the time.
Then the two of them got her. This is a picture of our sweet "hunter" using her "buddies" very expensive makeup...that is really not on the job discription for a buddy.

IMITATION OF CHRIST: Meditation of the day...
The Twenty-Seventh Chapter
Self-Love is the Greatest Hindrance to the Highest Good (part two)
The Voice of Christ
If you seek this or that, if you wish to be in this place or that place, to have more ease and pleasure, you will never rest or be free from care, for some defect is found in everything and everywhere someone will vex you. To obtain and multiply earthly goods, then, will not help you, but to despise them and root them out of your heart will aid. This, understand, is true not only of money and wealth, but also of ambition for honor and desire for empty praise, all of which will pass away with this world.
The place matters little if the spirit of fervor is not there; nor will peace be lasting if it is sought from the outside; if your heart has no true foundation, that is, if you are not founded in Me, you may change, but you will not better yourself. For when occasion arises and is accepted, you will find that from which you fled and worse.
A Prayer for Cleansing the Heart and Obtaining Heavenly Wisdom
Strengthen me by the grace of Your holy spirit, O God. Give me the power to be strengthened inwardly and to empty my heart of all vain care and anxiety, so that I may not be drawn away by many desires, whether for precious things or mean ones. Let me look upon everything as passing, and upon myself as soon to pass away with them, because there is nothing lasting under the sun, where all is vanity and affliction of spirit. How wise is he who thinks thus!
Give me, Lord, heavenly wisdom to learn above all else to seek and find You, to enjoy and love You more than anything, and to consider other things as they are, as Your wisdom has ordered them. Grant me prudence to avoid the flatterer and to bear patiently with him who disagrees with me. For it is great wisdom not to be moved by the sound of words, nor to give ear to the wicked, flattering siren. Then, I shall walk safely in the way I have begun.
Lord I thank you for the many gifts you give me. Help me to be strong when times are difficult. I love you!!!

PRAYERS FOR A YOUNG GIRL GOING TO HAVE AN ABORTION
I really thought I was called to do a new blog to pray for women who were in labor.
I have been getting more and more emails asking to pray for young women who are scheduled to get an abortion.
This morning I got this email:
In your charity please pray for a Catholic high school girl who has an abortion scheduled on Friday and is being pressured by her parents to do this against her conscience. Please pray through the intercession of Saint Gianna Beretta Molla! Thanking you profusely and asking for this to be widely disseminated. I remain Yours in Christ, (a priest in Hilton Head SC)
Let us ask Christ to spare this young lady and her baby from this horrible situation!!!

Self-Love is the Greatest Hindrance to the Highest Good (part one)
The Voice of Christ
MY CHILD, you should give all for all, and in no way belong to yourself. You must know that self-love is more harmful to you than anything else in the world. In proportion to the love and affection you have for a thing, it will cling to you more or less. If your love is pure, simple, and well ordered, you will not be a slave to anything. Do not covet what you may not have. Do not possess anything that can hinder you or rob you of freedom.
It is strange that you do not commit yourself to Me with your whole heart, together with all that you can desire or possess. Why are you consumed with foolish sorrow? Why are you wearied with unnecessary care? Be resigned to My will and you will suffer no loss.
Dear Lord, during my times of temptation help me to be resigned to Your will!!! Help me have a humble contrite spirit and think before I speak!!!

WHY WE CALL HIM TANK...
FACEBOOK...
Just added this evening: after reading this post it sounded so negative...I do have my concerns for teens...but, I have really enjoyed getting back in touch with many of my high school friends again...so like everything I do... I must find balance!!!
I have been keeping my eye on this new form of media and being grateful that it wasn't around when I was a teen. The temptations and opportunity for uncharity is overwhelming... When I was a teen it was hard enough to keep your reputation in good order...if facebook was around who knows what kind of trash we would of thrown around!!!
I joined facebook to keep my eyes out on my teens...sorry kids...but you know it is true. I know they can find ways to get around my eagle eyes but I still try. I love them and would give up my life for them. I try to tell them that there is no other person on earth who loves them more than I do. That I think is pretty powerful!!!
I have many concerns about the material found on facebook such as the bumper stickers and other applications that can border on scandalist. I am very concerned with the amount of time waisted as well as the opportunity to cyber bully or just degrade others. I tend to over react to the media when my children's souls are in danger.
I think that any parent with a teen on facebook should try to monitor them as much as possible. I wish I was better at this. I hope they guard themselves and watch out for photos and comments that have to do with them.
Recently my college aged daughter put my blog posts ( http://babystepsjmj.blogspot.com/ ) on facebook. At first I thought that was kinda cool. A chance to share my crazy life and my love for the Lord...
I am still thinking about this...I am not sure I want all I post to be uploaded on facebook...and I am pretty sure some of it, my teens would rather I not share...so I will ponder today and think about it.
In the mean time I will ask the Lord for wisdom to do His holy will!!!

The Twenty-Sixth Chapter
The Excellence of a Free Mind, Gained Through Prayer Rather Than By Study (part two)
The Disciple
My God, Sweetness beyond words, make bitter all the carnal comfort that draws me from love of the eternal and lures me to its evil self by the sight of some delightful good in the present. Let it not overcome me, my God. Let not flesh and blood conquer me. Let not the world and its brief glory deceive me, nor the devil trip me by his craftiness. Give me courage to resist, patience to endure, and constancy to persevere. Give me the soothing unction of Your spirit rather than all the consolations of the world, and in place of carnal love, infuse into me the love of Your name.
Behold, eating, drinking, clothing, and other necessities that sustain the body are burdensome to the fervent soul. Grant me the grace to use such comforts temperately and not to become entangled in too great a desire for them. It is not lawful to cast them aside completely, for nature must be sustained, but Your holy law forbids us to demand superfluous things and things that are simply for pleasure, else the flesh would rebel against the spirit. In these matters, I beg, let Your hand guide and direct me, so that I may not overstep the law in any way.
Amazing!!! Dear Lord give me courage to resist, patience to endure, and constancy to persevere in all the trials I encounter...big and small. Help me be the wife and mother you designed me to be and keep me close to you always!!!

How to keep a toddler busy while making cookies:
IMITATION OF CHRIST: Meditation of the day...
The Twenty-Sixth Chapter
The Excellence of a Free Mind, Gained Through Prayer Rather Than By Study
The Disciple
IT IS the mark of a perfect man, Lord, never to let his mind relax in attention to heavenly things, and to pass through many cares as though he had none; not as an indolent man does, but having by the certain prerogative of a free mind no disorderly affection for any created being.
Keep me, I beg You, most merciful God, from the cares of this life, lest I be too much entangled in them. Keep me from many necessities of the body, lest I be ensnared by pleasure. Keep me from all darkness of mind, lest I be broken by troubles and overcome. I do not ask deliverance from those things which worldly vanity desires so eagerly, but from those miseries which, by the common curse of humankind, oppress the soul of Your servant in punishment and keep him from entering into the liberty of spirit as often as he would.
We need to be strong against pride, vanity, and sensuality...they're out to get us!!! Through deep prayer and frequenting the sacraments we should be able to overcome temptations when they arise.

PREGNANCY SNACKS...
I will be adding to this during my pregnancy, so if you have any great suggestions send them!!!
Graham Crackers with peanut butter and raisins on top...for some reason I eat this all the time in the beginning of my pregnancy.
Fruit Shakes: any thing I have in the freezer or refrigerator. Yogurt, fruit, milk, orange juice, ice, jello powder, ice cream, sherbet. (did you know there is only one r in sherbet? My entire life I have said and spelled it this way: sherbert!!!) Just find the right combo and you are set. This is obviously what we do with fruit going bad, especially bananas. We freeze most of the fruit and use it when we need it.
Sunny Apple Salad: carrots grated, apples chopped (nice if you have different kinds), and a can of pineapple drained. (crushed works best) Add two tablespoons of orange juice concentrate and mix!!! The kids even like this...it is a great side dish when making food for a family with a new baby!!!
More later!!!

WHY DIDN'T THE LITTLE ELVES COME LAST NIGHT?
I have always loved the story of the Elves and the Shoemaker. I love the generous little guys who come to help out in complete secrecy. Well, they didn't show up at my house last night!!!
Last night at 9pm, after watching my all time favorite TV show, Extreme Home Make-Over, I fell fast asleep. When I woke up this morning my teens left the kitchen a mess!!! They had friends over to watch the 2 hour premiere 24. There were popcorn bags, bowls, nachos, smores makings, soda cans, etc...and the sink was overflowing with dishes!!!
So, after I almost cried...as if Monday Mornings aren't my least favorite anyway...I buckled down and cleaned up!!! I do feel great now that it is back in order!!!

IMITATION OF CHRIST: Meditation of the day...
The Twenty-Fifth Chapter
The Basis of Firm Peace of Heart and True Progress (part three)
The Disciple
In what do they consist, Lord?
The Voice of Christ
They consist in offering yourself with all your heart to the divine will, not seeking what is yours either in small matters or great ones, either in temporal or eternal things, so that you will preserve equanimity and give thanks in both prosperity and adversity, seeing all things in their proper light.
If you become so brave and long-suffering in hope that you can prepare your heart to suffer still more even when all inward consolation is withdrawn, and if you do not justify yourself as though you ought not be made to suffer such great things, but acknowledge Me to be just in all My works and praise My holy name—then you will walk in the true and right path of peace, then you may have sure hope of seeing My face again in joy. If you attain to complete contempt of self, then know that you will enjoy an abundance of peace, as much as is possible in this earthly life.
Why couldn't I remember this yesterday...I was in one of those moods...couldn't shake it. I get so frustrated with myself when I don't remember the peace that lives within me!!! Dearest Lord, forgive my frustration and thank you for reminding me of your abundance of peace!!!

IMITATION OF CHRIST: Meditation of the day...
The Twenty-Fifth Chapter
The Basis of Firm Peace of Heart and True Progress (part two)
The Disciple
What, then, shall I do, Lord?
The Voice of Christ
Watch yourself in all things, in what you do and what you say. Direct your every intention toward pleasing Me alone, and desire nothing outside of Me. Do not be rash in judging the deeds and words of others, and do not entangle yourself in affairs that are not your own. Thus, it will come about that you will be disturbed little and seldom.
Yet, never to experience any disturbance or to suffer any hurt in heart or body does not belong to this present life, but rather to the state of eternal rest. Do not think, therefore, that you have found true peace if you feel no depression, or that all is well because you suffer no opposition. Do not think that all is perfect if everything happens just as you wish. And do not imagine yourself great or consider yourself especially beloved if you are filled with great devotion and sweetness. For the true lover of virtue is not known by these things, nor do the progress and perfection of a man consist in them.
Lord God, help me to guard my thoughts and words. Through frequenting the sacraments I know you will give me the grace to be strong against these temptations. Forgive my pride and thank you for the many gifts and blessings you have bestowed on my and my family.

The Twenty-Fifth Chapter
The Basis of Firm Peace of Heart and True Progress (part one)
The Voice of Christ
MY CHILD, I have said: “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, do I give unto you.” John 14:27.
All men desire peace but all do not care for the things that go to make true peace. My peace is with the humble and meek of heart: your peace will be in much patience. If you hear Me and follow My voice, you will be able to enjoy much peace.
There is much more to this meditation. I thought I would just simplify and concentrate on being patient and LISTENING to Christ today...

BEST MATERNITY BUY OF ALL!!!
This is my "13Th" pregnancy...(one miscarriage 16 years ago) and this is one of my absolute new favorite things!!!
I saw one years ago and thought $14 was way to much...and didn't buy it...well I just bought one for about $17 and it is worth every penny!!! I looked at pant extenders and they all look bulky and uncomfortable. This is so comfy!!!
I have just expanded my wardrobe!!! I bought black...It is comfortable and moves in what ever direction I want...and I can wear all my "skinny" pants still!!! It works great for those "new" styles pants that drop below the belly for some reason...it gives you about 7 inches of space between your shirt and your pants too, so I don't have to keep pulling down my shirt.
I am guessing when the baby is born and I am nursing it will come in handy to hide my stomach when I don't have on a nursing shirt.
Totally cool!!!

IMITATION OF CHRIST: Meditation of the day...
The Twenty-Fourth Chapter
Avoiding Curious Inquiry About the Lives of Others
The Voice of Christ
MY CHILD, do not be curious. Do not trouble yourself with idle cares. What matters this or that to you? Follow Me. What is it to you if a man is such and such, if another does or says this or that? You will not have to answer for others, but you will have to give an account of yourself. Why, then, do you meddle in their affairs?
Behold, I know all men. I see everything that is done under the sun, and I know how matters stand with each—what is in his mind and what in his heart and the end to which his intention is directed. Commit all things to Me, therefore, and keep yourself in good peace. Let him who is disturbed be as restless as he will. Whatever he has said or done will fall upon himself, for he cannot deceive Me.
Do not be anxious for the shadow of a great name, for the close friendship of many, or for the particular affection of men. These things cause distraction and cast great darkness about the heart. I would willingly speak My word and reveal My secrets to you, if you would watch diligently for My coming and open your heart to Me. Be prudent, then. Watch in prayer, and in all things humble yourself.
Lord God, please help me to simplify my life. Help me have a pure intention in all I do. Help me not be anxious and distracted from YOUR WILL. Help me to be diligent, prudent in my words and actions, and have a humble contrite spirit. You are the best friend I could ever have, help me be the friend I should. Give me the graces I need to be charitable in thoughts and actions!!!

IMITATION OF CHRIST: Meditation of the day...
The Twenty-Third Chapter
Four Things Which Bring Great Peace (part two)
A Prayer Against Bad Thoughts
O Lord my God, be not far from me. O my God, hasten to help me, for varied thoughts and great fears have risen up within me, afflicting my soul. How shall I escape them unharmed? How shall I dispel them?
“I will go before you,” says the Lord, “and will humble the great ones of earth. I will open the doors of the prison, and will reveal to you hidden secrets.”
Do as You say, Lord, and let all evil thoughts fly from Your face. This is my hope and my only comfort—to fly to You in all tribulation, to confide in You, and to call on You from the depths of my heart and to await patiently for Your consolation.
A Prayer for Enlightening the Mind
Enlighten me, good Jesus, with the brightness of internal light, and take away all darkness from the habitation of my heart. Restrain my wandering thoughts and suppress the temptations which attack me so violently. Fight strongly for me, and vanquish these evil beasts—the alluring desires of the flesh—so that peace may come through Your power and the fullness of Your praise resound in the holy courts, which is a pure conscience. Command the winds and the tempests; say to the sea: “Be still,” and to the north wind, “Do not blow,” and there will be a great calm.
Send forth Your light and Your truth to shine on the earth, for I am as earth, empty and formless until You illumine me. Pour out Your grace from above. Shower my heart with heavenly dew. Open the springs of devotion to water the earth, that it may produce the best of good fruits. Lift up my heart pressed down by the weight of sins, and direct all my desires to heavenly things, that having tasted the sweetness of supernal happiness, I may find no pleasure in thinking of earthly things.
Snatch me up and deliver me from all the passing comfort of creatures, for no created thing can fully quiet and satisfy my desires. Join me to Yourself in an inseparable bond of love; because You alone can satisfy him who loves You, and without You all things are worthless.
Dear Lord thank you for so many gifts. Help me simplify my life and stick with the basics of my faith, the sacraments and prayer. Adoration, contrition, thanksgiving, and supplication.

Meditation of the day...IMITATION OF CHRIST...
The Twenty-Third Chapter
Four Things Which Bring Great Peace (part one)
The Voice of Christ:
MY CHILD, I will teach you now the way of peace and true liberty.
1. Seek, child, to do the will of others rather than your own.
2. Always choose to have less rather than more.
3. Look always for the last place and seek to be beneath all others.
4. Always wish and pray that the will of God be fully carried out in you.
Behold, such will enter into the realm of peace and rest.
The Disciple:
O Lord, this brief discourse of Yours contains much perfection. It is short in words but full of meaning and abounding in fruit. Certainly if I could only keep it faithfully, I should not be so easily disturbed. For as often as I find myself troubled and dejected, I find that I have departed from this teaching. But You Who can do all things, and Who always love what is for my soul’s welfare, give me increase of grace that I may keep Your words and accomplish my salvation.
Oh Lord, I am ashamed of my worldliness. Please help me better grasp and obtain the advice given. Help me to:
1. Seek to do the will of others rather than my own.
2. Always choose to have less rather than more.
3. Look always for the last place and seek to be beneath all others.
4. Always wish and pray that the will of God be fully carried out.

Thoughts on the New Year by Father Leo Patalinghug...
Don't miss this and many other inspiring messages from Father Leo!!!
The Bitter sweetness of a New Year
The New Year is a special time. It is often bittersweet, evidenced by the somber, yet hopeful way we sing “Auld Lang Syne.” Depending on where we are in life, New Year’s can mean many things to different people.
The wild and young at heart see December 31st as the last hurrah of the year and approach the day with revelry. Some approach it with anxiety, especially in light of the current economic instability of which the media constantly reminds us. End of the world “doom and gloomers” are strangely inspired by apocalyptic fear, while lonely people, those who recently experienced a death or break up, find their pain heightened to the point of depression or cynicism.
While December 31st is just another day of the year, it holds a unique importance. For people of faith, this day brings a sense of nostalgic and prayerful reflection of the past as well as joy and hope in the New Year to come.
As Catholics, we not only celebrate the secular understanding of the calendar year’s end, we also celebrate a solemn feast, a Holy Day of Obligation called Mary, the Mother of God. People of faith begin each year in solemn prayer with a distinctive focus. In this celebration, we recognize that Mary, the mother of God, is also our spiritual mother. We have a chance to begin a new year and a new life of grace. If we remember that Jesus (who is God) gave us Mother Mary from the cross, we can truly be born again of the same spiritual mother who gave Jesus to us that first Christmas.
For me, this New Year is extra special. One of my good priest friends, Fr. Patrick Peach, is leaving the Diocesan Priesthood in order to join the Carmel of the Blessed Virgin Mary, in Lake Elmo, Minnesota.
This is a bittersweet departure for his family and friends. I’ll miss Fr. Patrick Peach very much. He’s a great guy and a great priest. I knew him before he entered the seminary and I know that his new life as a semi-contemplative hermit will be powerfully enriching for the entire church. He will serve the church by dedicating his life to contemplation, prayer, and spiritual renewal. Talk about a change: from busy parish life to the business of contemplative prayer.
My young friend’s new life made me reflect on how I should approach the New Year. We have enough poor examples of how the rest of the world approaches the New Year with loud parties and binging. Fr. Peach’s decision helped me to put in perspective how silence, prayer, and deep meditation of God’s goodness is the best way to approach a new year.
Please don’t think I’m trying to put a damper on the holiday/holy day cheer. I just want to offer people an opportunity to approach this significant calendar event in a different way – with some quiet family prayer.
My family celebrates each New Year (and every holiday) with lots of singing, dancing, laughter, and food.
Amidst all the fun, we pause about 20 minutes before midnight for some quiet conversation. We pray, reading the scriptures and offering a thanksgiving prayer to God for the blessings of the past year. We encourage each other to make true resolutions, the same way we resolve to do better after each Confession (which by the way, is a great way to approach the New Year). We pray the Te Deum, a hymn of praise to God. If done with the proper disposition we receive a plenary indulgence; and we always make it to Mass for the Holy Day of Obligation.
As you can see, there is room for celebration in the midst of our prayer. Fr. Peach’s entry to the Carmel is a great reminder for us to make sure that our busy lives permit time for necessary quiet prayer that will help us get through the next year.
While his departure is sad for his family and friends, we are confident that his new life in the New Year will not only balance prayer and celebration, it will combine it perfectly into one act. Prayer will become a true celebration!
A Family Prayer for the New Year
The Te Deum is a great prayer for the entire family to say a few minutes before midnight. It contains deep theological statements about the nature of God and salvation history. It shows that God deserves all praise, for He has been faithful to us this past year. He also promises, as a spouse promises his bride, to be faithful in this life, and more importantly, in the life to come.
I pray that you and your family experience the blessings of the New Year. May our Blessed Mother’s prayers give you a sense of truly being a brother or sister of the Lord.
And by the way, if you don’t say this prayer at midnight, go ahead and pray it anytime, especially on Sundays when priests and religious women pray it as part of their promise of prayer.
Te Deum (To God)
You are God; we praise You;
You are the Lord; we acclaim You;
You are the eternal Father; All creation worships You
To You all angels, all the powers of Heaven, cheribum, and seraphim sing in endless praise; Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, Heaven and earth are full of Your glory.
The glorious company of apostles praise You.
The noble fellowship of prophets praise You.
The white-robed army of martyrs praise You.
Throughout the world the holy Church acclaims You:
Father, of majesty unbounded; Your true and only Son, worthy of all worship; and the Holy Spirit, advocate and guide.
You, Christ, are the King of glory, the eternal Son of the Father.
When You became man to set us free You did not spurn the Virgin’s womb.
You overcame the sting of death, and opened the kingdom of Heaven to all believers.
You are seated at God’s right hand in glory. We believe that You will come, and be our judge.
Come then, Lord, and help Your people, brought with the price of Your own blood, and bring us with Your saints to glory everlasting.
Save Your people, Lord, and bless Your inheritance. Govern and uphold them now and always.
Day by day we bless You. We praise Your name forever.
Keep us today, Lord, from all sin. Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy.
Lord, show us Your love and mercy; for we put our trust in You.
In You, Lord, is our hope; and we shall never hope in vain.
Thank God for priests like Father Leo Patalinghug!!!
Thy will be done!!!+JMJ+

Come then, Lord, and help Your people, brought with the price of Your own blood, and bring us with Your saints to glory everlasting.
Save Your people, Lord, and bless Your inheritance. Govern and uphold them now and always.
Day by day we bless You. We praise Your name forever.
Keep us today, Lord, from all sin. Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy.
Lord, show us Your love and mercy; for we put our trust in You.
In You, Lord, is our hope; and we shall never hope in vain.

Feast of Mary the Mother of God...
MARY THE MOTHER OF GOD
FEAST DAY: JANUARY 1ST
PRAYER TO MARY, MOTHER OF GOD
CATENA LEGIONIS
Antiphon. --
Who is she that cometh forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon, bright as the Sun, terrible as an army set in battle array? My soul doth magnify the Lord.Because He hath regarded the humility of His handmaid: for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For He that is mighty hath done great things to me, and holy is His name. And His mercy is from generation unto generations to them that fear Him.He hath showed might in His arm: He hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart. He hath put down the mighty from their seat: and hath exalted the humble. He hath filled the hungry with good things: and the rich He hath sent empty away.He hath received Israel His servant: being mindful of His mercy. As He spoke to our fathers: to Abraham and to his seed forever.Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Anitphon. -- Who is she that cometh forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, terrible as an army set in battle array?
V. O Mary conceived without sin.
R. Pray for us who have recourse to Thee.
Let us pray:
O Lord Jesus Christ our Mediator with the Father, Who has been pleased to appoint the Most Blessed Virgin, Thy Mother, to be our Mother also, and our Mediatrix with Thee, mercifully grant that whosoever comes to Thee seeking Thy favours may rejoice to receive all of them through her. Amen.

IMITATION OF CHRIST: Meditation of the day...
FOR THOSE UNHAPPY WITH WHAT THEY GOT FOR CHRISTMAS:
The Twenty-Second Chapter
Remember the Innumerable Gifts of God (part two)
The Disciple
He, on the other hand, who has received fewer gifts should not be sad or impatient or envious of the richer man. Instead he should turn his mind to You and offer You the greatest praise because You give so bountifully, so freely and willingly, without regard to persons. All things come from You; therefore, You are to be praised in all things. You know what is good for each of us; and why one should receive less and another more is not for us to judge, but for You Who have marked every man’s merits.
Therefore, O Lord God, I consider it a great blessing not to have many things which human judgment holds praiseworthy and glorious, for one who realizes his own poverty and vileness should not be sad or downcast at it, but rather consoled and happy because You, O God, have chosen the poor, the humble, and the despised in this world to be Your friends and servants. The truth of this is witnessed by Your Apostles, whom You made princes over all the world. Yet they lived in this world without complaining, so humble and simple, so free from malice and deceit, that they were happy even to suffer reproach for Your name and to embrace with great affection that which the world abhors.
A man who loves You and recognizes Your benefits, therefore, should be gladdened by nothing so much as by Your will, by the good pleasure of Your eternal decree. With this he should be so contented and consoled that he would wish to be the least as others wish to be the greatest; that he would be as peaceful and satisfied in the last place as in the first, and as willing to be despised, unknown and forgotten, as to be honored by others and to have more fame than they. He should prefer Your will and the love of Your honor to all else, and it should comfort him more than all the benefits which have been, or will be, given him.
Dearest Lord...oh that I should prefer Your will and the love of Your honor to all else!!! Help me THIS NEW YEAR to be the woman you created me to be!!!
